Pre Shot Routine Critical To Your Game
Pre Shot Routine Critical To Your GameThere is a new wave of activity going on at The Monk Billiard Academy, and those who have purchased the DVD “Bring Your Game to its Highest Level” know what I mean.
For others, I am sending along an article regarding the powerful information in that DVD. I talked to you before about the value of the Pre Shot Routine. The PSR is a critical part of your game. It could very well be the most important thing you do in getting to the masters level. I would like to say what a pre shot routine is NOT!
The PSR is not to set up a rhythm.
The Pre Shot Routine is used to help you get into the shot at hand mode. The Pre Shot Routine is used to help you get ready to strike! Have you ever seen a warrior go through his war dance before he attacks? He is getting all of his focus on the attack. He wants to strike with everything he has. A tiger goes through the exact same ritual before he leaps to action. He is building up his adrenalin and focus so it is keen and sharp and there is only one thing left to do. He wants to strike with everything he has. What is his everything? He can only have his everything when he thinks of nothing. Then he can go into the attack mode with total commitment. Have you ever stood at the edge of a high diving board and shook with fear? Your buddy yells up, "go on three". He begins to count "one, two three"! You leap on three. You do this because you were prepared to strike. All you thought about was "leap on three". Have you ever stood at the starters gate and heard the starter yell "ready?" You began to focus. "Set" you were alive with intent. "Go" you sprung into action. On the word "go", you had nothing in your mind but to leap forward with everything you had. There was no hesitation, no second thought, no fear, no consideration. You were ready. That is what your pre shot routine is designed to do for you. It is designed to get you ready to strike. Nothing is on your mind. You strike with everything you have. In battle you only see the opponent in front of you. You do not see the field full of fighters. You see your opponent because you were trained to see him. You were trained to deal with the issues in front of you. For us, it is the shot we face and if we use the PSR properly, we will be "ready, set go". My pre shot routine is a complicated one. When you work on your PSR you will miss a lot of shots but there is a payoff down the line. In some Zen Archery training course the archer pulls the bow back hour after hours with no arrow in the sling. Some masters have asked their student to practice pulling the bow string back for six months before he is allowed to place the arrow in the sling. He is training to one day strike.
I use a set of 3's.
NEXT I have another set of 3. At this point I check if I am in line with the shot. Did I go down in the right line?
NEXT I have another set of 3. . At times when I am training, I focus on my "set." Other times, my "pause" and still others, "finish". You must be able to experience every facet of your PSR. You must be part of the PSR. You must be your Pre Shot Routine. 3 is the magic number. You run balls in threes. You shoot the first shot to set up for the second ball so you are able to get to the third ball.
You "see the shot, know the stroke and shoot the shot". What kind of player would you be if you were all of these 3's? It is worth the effort. This will take months of hard work. Perhaps six months. A master is ready to strike because he prepares for that moment. A world class player uses his PSR to clear his mind and reach peak performance.
If you don't have my DVD Bring Your Game to its Highest Level, please order it. I will ship it to you personally from New Zealand. Don't build your game without this vital information.
Bring Your Game To Its Highest Level
Faith Moves MountainsThis past weekend I was scheduled for a personal appearance at Sammy's Entertainment Center in Dunedin, New Zealand. I had Randy Goettlicher with me. Randy and I are working on The Masters Teaching program here in NZ. We arrived in Dunedin late Friday night. Bonnie, and two masters, Ian MacDonald, From Wales, Matt Edwards from New Zealand were also with us. Upon our arrival, we found there there was not one motel room available in that city. The entire city was filled with thousands of Bagpipers from Scotland. We were in despair, homeless, willing to pay two hundred for each room. Ian was talking to a waitress about our plight. She told him about a Hostel that was not open, but we could rent two rooms there if we did not mind the ladders and paint buckets in the entry way. The rooms were finished and very nice. When she met us at twelve, after her shift so we could pay, she charged us sixty dollars for two rooms! Can you imagine our surprise? And what were the chances we would run into that waitress that late at night? We had faith, and it moved mountains. It gets better. Randy and I wanted to do a series of "fireside chats". We have been around this game for over thirty years. We have some things to share that are interesting and educational for our friends around the world. There was a lounge just down the hall. When I walked in, I knew we would be filming here. One wall was a huge brick fireplace. We spent over six hours in front of that fireplace to get one hour of footage. We also filmed our "Masters Teaching Series" in front of that fireplace. What a stroke of luck! The show was great, we had a good time. On one other note. There were five of us in that SUV. No one was on the right schedule. We stopped for one to go to the bathroom, and the other did not have to go until we reached the next town. We stopped for one to get a sandwich, the others were not hungry until we reached another town. We took seven hours to travel a four hour trip. Next week we are traveling to the North Island for another personal appearance. I have a student from Singapore who will be here so our group is getting bigger. Ramona will be traveling down to join us. This should be a nice trip. We are required to take a three-hour ferry ride to get to Wellington.
The Four Strokes Now On DVDYou need to master The Four Strokes of Pool, and here is your chance to learn this valuable information from a DVD.Once
we master the four strokes of pocket billiards, we will find ourselves
adding a little of one stroke with another. For instance, there are Decide
right now that you will master each stroke. Put yourself into action to
make that happen by learning more about this New Bring The Monk To Your TownI will be back in the states on April 20th. Then I will travel to Michigan and then to Vegas. At this time, I am putting together personal appearances in the major cities along the way. If your state falls in that route, and you would like to host a Monk Personal Appearance, let me know. There is no cost for this special event. The Monk stops in your town, and shares his program with you and your friends. At your stop, lets fill the pool hall.May All The Rolls Go Your WayThe Monk |
