World Class Players have two feet, two arms and two eyes New DVD Launches

I believe we deal with a special group of players. Our mailing list numbers several thousand yet not all readers open this newsletter. But I believe a special group does. And it is to these wonderful friends, I share my strengths, hopes and experiences.

How often do you make
a ball on the break?

Most of the players answered fifty per cent. This would put you in the ranks of a master player. Anything above fifty per cent is a clear indication of a disciplined break shot, or the best case of denial I have ever heard.

Most players think they make balls on every break. The fact is, fifty per cent is very good. The best way to make balls on the break is to use the “stun”. You will shatter the balls with the “stun”. So if you want to practice your break you don’t have to hire someone to rack for you. All you have to do is line up straight in on a ball, and stun it.

If your cue ball hops up and creeps forward, you have just delivered the finest break stroke in the world. You must be able to feel it. You must know you hit the shot before the cue ball contacts the object ball. And you can master the break by simply shooting one ball. Groove that feeling, that sound and that stroke and then use this to break the rack.

Keep track of your progress, as you might want to make an adjustment later on. Make sure you make contact dead on the head ball. You should only be happy when you make a ball, and leave nothing touching each other and nothing touching a rail. The pattern you leave yourself is the determining factor on how well your broke the rack.

Something to think about…

You must seek to incorporate an enlightened quality of a particular mind-set into your game and make it your own. You must become the quality and you can do this by visualizing the quality over and over. You must contemplate the virtues that this quality represents, reciting affirmations throughout the day. You are building a mind-set from which you will act, think and perform. The ultimate goal is to become the quality so that you take on all the elements of that quality.

World Class Players have
two feet, two arms and two eyes

Have you ever wondered why there are so few new players on the pro tour? In the past twenty years, only about fifty players have joined the tour. With millions taking up this game, one wonders why there are so few new players who reach the level of a master. What is the cause of so few players making it to the top?

The reason is because there are millions of players who do not take the time to lay a solid foundation to their game. When they compete against a master, they are simply not strong enough. It is not a matter of shots and strokes. Something is missing and this weakness is exposed during tough competition. I once gave a two-day lesson to one of the premiere players in New York. As we were going through my Four Strokes of Pool material he gave me a funny look. Then he said, “Monk, if you walk out that door right now, my thousand dollars is the best money I ever spent. I never knew this stuff.” We were working on the basics of pocket billiards. We were laying a foundation that would support his world-class game.

The road to the masters is filled with many pitfalls. You should find a program, or coach who will take you to that summit one step at a time. You should allow your coach to determine if you have mastered the basics. Don’t rush out there to play. Take time to build your game.

If you take center stage to early, you will not survive.

I have just completed a new DVD. It is called;

Mystery eMail

I received this email from Mike. His address was invalid but the questions were great. So I will answer them here and hope Mike finds his way to this newsletter.

When you get down on your shot, everything in line, where is the tip of your cue in relation to the cue ball?  And do you then move the tip to apply the proper English? What does this do to your point of aim?

When you get in line with the shot, you must be in line with the tip of your cue. If you want to use one cue tip right English, you must line up that way. You do not make an adjustment once you are over the ball. In my next newsletter, I have an excellent article on the pre shot routine and how to set up.
