Monk Master Wins!

A Monk Master takes down the New Zealand Open

Ceri Worts lost his first match to Dan Burns when his winning shot on the eight ball bounced back out of the pocket. He then went on to beat Nick Pelling 5 – 3 Isaac Heke 5 – 0 Michael Walters 5 -1 Chris Burke 5 – 0. The following day he had wins over Aaron Shaw 5 – 4 top Snooker champion Chris McBreen 5 – 3 Nick Pelling 6 – 2 and finally Jimmy Henry 7 – 6. What makes it remarkable is how Mr. Worts was able to dominate in a short race against the finest players in New Zealand even more remarkable was that this was in defense of his NZ Open Eight Ball Championship title.

Last year, he beat fellow Monk Master Matt Edwards for the title. “I was well prepared this day” Ceri spoke to the audience after the match. “When I came here I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I ran into some tough players today. I am lucky to have survived.”

In the finals Ceri and Jimmy Henry battled it out for the number one New Zealand rankings with Ceri running the final two racks to win. Jimmy Henry proved to be a tough opponent. Jimmy is fresh off his ten thousand dollar victory in the Eight Ball Hustlers Competition held in Auckland. He was looking for back to back wins to take over the number one spot from Ceri Worts. Brent Wells, a Monk Master took third. Matt Edwards, another Monk Masters finished fifth.

Ceri has not lost a tournament in New Zealand and Australia in fourteen months.
