How important is your finish?

How important is your finish

A lot has been said about the “home” position of your hand when you complete the stroke. In fact, in my book Pool Tips for Beginners I talk about getting “home” at the end of your stroke. What separates me from the other teachers is that your “home” is not always in the same place. One of the top instructors in this game suggests that we should finish in the same place every time. This is false.

There are many “home” positions. If for instance, you use back English you will not be able to finish in the straight forward position. When I hit one of the Four Ball Exercise shots, my hand and cue is up in the air, about a foot away from the line of the shot. When I use my spin stroke, my home is six to eight inches away from the line of the shot. So the “home” is not always the same and should not be taught as thus.

The pause in the stroke is designed to bring you to the highest peak before you deliver the shot. At that pause, you have nothing on your mind but the stroke you are going to use. You are not aiming, as you should have done that already. You are preparing to strike.

I have all this material in my book Pool Tips for Beginners. I am offering that book to you this week, as my gift. No charge. I am here to help you in any way I can. There are times when I advertise specials because I want to give you a good deal and I need to make a living. Write to me today if you don’t have that book. Even if you do have it, let me send it to you again as I just went through it one more time to add a few things and make it more professional. You should have a copy. And this one is on me. The grip is very important as well. I like to be four inches back from the balance point. On many shots however, I cannot do that. So there is no concrete place to grip the cue. It has to do with your size, the shot you are facing and the type of stroke you are using.

Help Help Help

I would like your help in filling my workshops. As you know, I am bringing an all star cast of teachers so we can better serve your pocket billiards needs. This is an expensive trip. MMU has agreed to sponsor students with a five hundred donation so we can offer this workshop experience for just five hundred dollars. It is our desire to make it as affordable as possible. But I need your help. If you are willing to post twenty flyers in your area, pool halls, league news, community centers, I will give you any e-book of your choice. Email me today with your offer to help and I will send along our flyer. Let me know your area so we can send the appropriate flyer to you. It is friends like you who make all this possible. You have my sincere thanks for your support.
