Eight Ball - The toughest game.
During my playing days I have always been interested in the game of eight ball. It seemed like I could beat most nine ball players at this game. Eight Ball is a thinking man’s game. You must have character.You need character to pocket a ball when you could very well lose the game. There are many times when if you just made the ball, you could have run out.
A kick shot is better than sitting in your chair so make the tough shot and take what you get. The most important thing in the game of eight ball is to make the ball.
I ran eight racks at a fair one time. Because the place was full of spectators, I did not want to miss a shot. It seemed like I got lucky after I made a tough ball and had the time of my life running racks.
Think about the failed opportunities you have faced in this game. Your run has almost always come to an end on a missed shot that you did not give one hundred per cent to.
You need character to make decisions while you are on your feet. You can shoot any of your balls in any order so you have to decide what ball is best for you.
You need character to give one hundred per cent to what you are doing when you have two choices.
You need character to make that key ball.
You need character to make that eight ball.
You need character to run out when you have the opportunity.
You need character to stick to a personal strategy during the match.
I had six girls win the BCA Eight Ball Championships. The three who went undefeated did not break and run one single rack.
Eight ball is about playing the percentages. You need to seek the advantage in every single thing you do. Do not try to run the rack with C balls on the table. Do not try to run the rack is you have two or more B balls. Learn how to leave the table unrunable and then clean up the mess your opponent makes.
The game of eight ball is the toughest of all the games we play. I will look for you in the finals.
