A new exercise from The Monk

The Monks New Exercise

I invented a new exercise that really helps you evaluate your skill level.

Rack up a rack of eight ball. Use your “stun” break. Proceed to run either the stripes or solids. If you run out, you will get two points. If you run out, throw the eight ball back on the table and run the other balls. If you are successful, you get one more point. Thus, a perfect run will give you three points. If you miss in your attempt to run the rack, proceed to shoot the other balls off. If you are successful you will receive one point for that frame.

Go through five frames and add up your score. I am currently doing this exercise. I have put up some good numbers. Here is your evaluation key.

Three points = Fair. Lack mastery of the four strokes of pool.

Four points = Average. Lack Cue Ball Speed.

Six points = Good. Not real strong on the finish. Good skill level.

Eight Points = Very Good. Mastery of the four strokes, Cue ball speed and self.

Ten Points or more = Great. Has it all. Master of self and the rest.

You will find that when you have a C ball in your spread, your run out is seriously in jeopardy. If you are getting to many clusters, work on your break. A good break is vital in this exercise. If I want to get good numbers I break from spot to the head ball. This break really shatters the rack. I don’t use it in matches as I don’t make a ball very often. Make sure you use the “stun”. You will really like your layout.

Let me know how you do in this exercise. It has everything built into it. You need the strokes, cue ball speed, shot making and mastery of self.

I will see you on the road.

Be sure to make plans for The Monk 101 workshop tour. I will be doing a workshop and a Secrets Revealed stop in several cities across the United States.

Holiday Stress

Stress during the Holiday’s.

If you are anything like me you will feel like you came up short once again on this Christmas season. Somehow, you will feel like you did not do enough, therefore you will be depressed and under stress.

I invented a new way to overcome this. I make it a point to send love to strangers. When I am on the street, I smile or I wave, or I simply send love and my best wishes through the air.

I am in control of my attitude and for this time of the year, I decide I will feel the incredible love that was displayed so many years ago.

We can get better!

This game is not that easy. Sometimes, after all my hard work I think perhaps I just don’t have it. Maybe I am not supposed to be a great player.

After a long session at the table I come away with the thought that I just might not be what I thought I was.

This sounds like a man defeated but it is not. These are the thoughts of a champion. Ask Tiger Woods what he thinks of his game after he wins a tournament. He smiles and says, “I know I can get better”.

The entire journey is about “getting better”.

How much more exciting can it get? We can improve! The same is true with possibility. It does not matter where you are you always have the possibility to improve. You are unlimited possibilities.

If you reach the point where you don’t think you need to improve, you are in trouble my friend.

A letter written to a friend.

Dear Monk,

I am 74 years old. I have been with Tim Miller for a long while now and hold a master teaching credential from the Academy. He helped me develop a school for players that almost from the first day had a waiting list.

Unfortunately for me I found that I had developed a cancer that sent me reeling almost to death's door (from 205 lbs to 128 lbs).

I was unable to stand, let alone lift a cue. The first chemo therapy regimen was a complete failure and I was given an option by my HMO to go into hospice or take a different chemo regimen which I was assured had little chance of success. I took that chance and am now back to 146 lbs and beginning to get back to the table.

Why am I telling you this? I believe firmly that what I learned from the Monk was much more instrumental to my comeback than any medicine. Your time on the table is a micro-experience of your life. Overcoming pool obstacles is no different than beating life obstacles. You bring to life experiences learned. I hope you acquire from Tim only a part of what I did.

May all the rolls and life tribulations go your way.
