You Have The Power-Find it

The point of power is always in the present moment. The present moment is in your mind. It is not on the table. While the table has a ball pattern to deal with, your mind is what determines the actions of the moment. What do we do when we notice a problem with the run out in front of us? We see the trouble balls right away. We begin our journey towards success on the one ball, the two ball and the three and all that time we have defeat in our mind. For us, the point of power is in the trouble ball later in the rack. We are somewhere out in the future. Since all our power is in the future, we have none to run to the trouble ball.

We begin with an attitude of defeat. We are not sure of our run out and a part of us does not want to begin at all. Why begin our journey when we know we will fail? This experience can set up a mindset early in our pocket billiards development and many players today are still controlled by this type of mental attitude. In Point the Way, I teach “with one leg in the future and one leg in the past, all we can do is piss on today.”

Once we place value on a ball we will face in the future, we have ended our chance for success. With the problem four shots away, how can we fully commit ourselves to the shot at hand?

Our years of playing nine ball have left us with a tentative spirit. Eighty per cent of the time we do not succeed with the completed run. And this knowledge invites inevitable defeat. How often do you feel like you did the best you can do? Have you ever felt like you could have done better?

In your next match, make every effort to focus on the “shot in front of you.” Be one with the moment of contact. Get down with the cue tip and feel the contact. Did you give it your full attention? Did you become an, “I Came to Win,” player? Did you think about future shots? Did you think about past shots? Did you focus on this shot?

There is no future shot, past shot, next shot last shots. There is just this shot. Give it the attention it deserves.

Hello Monk

I just wanted to set down and get a few things off my chest.

First of all I want to make a plea to all your students, all the people who read your newsletter and read your books, watch your videos or dvds, and pool players everywhere---GET TO CHICAGO in July for the Maine event!

I have been to Detroit and I have been to Orlando and I will be in Chicago and anyone who wants to get better at billiards and better in life needs to be there.

I don’t know if you have anymore spots left but I had to make a plea to pool players. They need this if they ever want to get better and see the fellowship that goes on at one of your Main events.

I guess I had this on my heart and in my mind and just had to take a moment and tell pool players everywhere they need this! Feel free to put this on your site or in your newsletter because this is a must attend event.

I was out training in my poolroom when I thought I would write {and you know how much I hate computers} I was thinking how could anyone not come to this especially those who have read one book or watched one video. It is truly a life changing event. If there is any chance at all to come they need to be there. I don’t even know if you have any spots left but this needs to be a full event and I hope just one more person will make it a point to get there.

"Levi" your student Levi

I am leaving New Zealand on the 20th of July. My first stop will be San Diego on the 23rd. Then I spend a week in Chicago for the Maine Event and the Masters Teachers seminar. I travel to New England and then to North Carolina. I do have a scheduled personal appearance in Spartenburg South Carolina.

On this trip I will be setting up the Monk Masters Tour. This is a tour across the states with a group of fine players from around the world. If you think your room would like to host a Monk Masters Tour, let me know and I will try to fit it in the schedule. There is no charge to the room.
